Engineering Technology Scans

Engineering Technology Scans

All industry has historically benefited from advances in technology. Benefits from technology can be immediate – or highly illusive. In an era of rapid technological change, technology scanning is a critical strategic activity for all industry.

Lr. Project Managers employ a structured approach to technology scanning that will help a company, or an industry sift through the myriad possibilities and formulate a coherent strategy for research and/ or for investment.

We assist you by conducting our performance-based technology scans in five basic steps:

1. General Search for Technologies

Conduct a very broad review of new and emerging technologies that might be beneficial to the application.

2. Technology Mapping

Conduct structured investigations into the performance capabilities of the system and identify the points of leverage for technological developments related to cost, reliability, safety, or capacity (for all competing modes)

3. Systems Modelling

Develop and maintain a set of models that can be used to evaluate the technological application as they affect specific aspects of the system’s performance and contribution to the overall desired outputs

4. Customer Requirements Analysis

Investigate the requirements of selected groups of customers and identify new ways of doing business; estimate the benefits to customers that will result from improvements in cost, speed, reliability, safety or capacity etc. of the applied technology.

5. Analysis of Specific Technologies

Examine specific technologies identified as having potential for improving system performance and working for the proposed application.

Ultimately, we set the groundwork for full feasibility work that is focused on applicable technology and not just a hunch. This saves time and money thus reducing the overall project costs.
